CROSSROADS ※ 1: DISCUSSION POST [mod event] [video] [open]

Okay, so those bird dudes weren't lying about the different paths. I found the crossroads they're talking about.

[Kon really shouldn't be tromping around alone like this so much but he's used to being nigh on invincible. It's going to take a while for him to get used to the idea that he's not.]

[The road was all overgrown but there is a road through the woods - and it leads here, to a place where the line of the forest breaks into wide fields of golden grasses. Kon sets up his mirror to expand to its largest side and leaves it to float. There's a crossroads here with a battered wooden sign. The wood is so faded and weathered that words can no longer be read on it.]

[The path splits off into three paths. Down the left-most path, the unlabeled path leads down a dark and dreary road towards some hills. One hill can be seen all the way in the distance, standing out above the others. Rising a thousand feet above the rest of the land around it, it's covered in battered ruins that offer at least some shelter from the elements and cover from potential enemies.]

[Down the center path, the path clearly leads to a sinister-looking wild forest, a dark and dreary wood that seems filled with endless shadows. The path disappears into the woods and the tangled branches make it impossible to see into the forest's depths, especially at this distance.]

[Down the right-most path, there's candy. No joke. Dirt and normal plants start to give way to cobblestones made of hard candy and sugar-spun delicate trees. Gummdrops line the side of the road. The other two paths are grim, with even the hilly path dim from cloudy skies, but this path seems to have clear skies and constant sun.]

[Kon stands in front of the mirror, so that the paths are behind him.]

So our choices are: the Land of the Hill Trolls, Mirkwood, and Candyland.

[He narrows his eyes.]

I don't trust Candyland. [He gestures vaguely at it.] The other two roads have the good graces to be creepy from the get-go, but that looks deceptively nice. It's trying way too hard to be cheerful and sunshine-ey.

[ooc: See the OOC Post here.]

[The spirit suddenly lunges at her, the face of a baboon appearing and screeching at her, trying to get her to look scared or react.]

[The sword at her side rises up in response, the blade's tip pointed at the baboon face.]

[A raised sword still isn't a change in expression. She's won. His face shifts back to the Noh mask.]

Glad to be of service. Perhaps we'll face one another again sometime.

[The exchange is complete. She's won. For now.]

[Fading from the material world, he scurries off and disappears as he fades into the spirit realm once more.]

Thank you, spirit.

[Once, and only once the facestealer has fully faded from view, does she relax, looking somewhat tired from steeling herself for an admittedly short but intense time, picking up the cloak on the ground nearby to drape over her shoulders and cover herself before looking over to Kon, and the mirror.]

Yeah, mon, you're good.

I guess that answers some questions we had, huh?

The king with a sweet smile sounds alright. [Guess who has two thumbs and zoned out halfway through watching the weird shit in the mirror.

Honestly, he's just really pulling for Candyland at this point so he can feel like he had some input of value to the group.

Sure, when you put it that way.

[Anita's taken Dixon and Kon's arguing as an opportunity to at least pull on her top and overskirt in the meantime. Clothes, even if it isn't a lot of them.]

The forest sounds like it's probably the worst idea of the three, though. I don't like the idea of a place filled with spiders and something even the spiders are afraid of.

[If he questioned and played skeptic to everything weird and fantastical going on here, he'd never be done. So he's keeping his mouth shut anout the bizarre shit with the "ritual" and "spirit" and focuses on what's concrete.]

It's lose-lose-lose, but at least the information given about one of the routes includes how to handle the threat there.

I still cast my vote for the [A sigh because what is his life now?] candy path.

I'm voting for the hills. We know it has possible shelter, and we know how to deal with whatever the threats there are. That's more than we can say about the other paths. We don't really know anything about what we might find in the forest, and the best that can be said for the candy path is that it might have a source of food.

["Might". He still doesn't trust that candy.]
shipoftheseus: (100% okay seriously)

If I still get a vote then I say go with the really colorful one. It looks sunnier. And it's easy food for the rest of you, right?

[ Smug Bat boy is faintly smug. ]

My vote is still for Candy Land.

I know I'm stuck in Elfen Hausen, but yeah. The hills is the best choice now. The voodoo spirit said how to deal with it, and the woods have some ancient evil force. Ancient and evil together are two words you do not want to engage in unprepared.

Like the only word combi worse is Candy Land.

I-[ For once there's actually a pause where he seems to be thinking it over. ]...I'm changing my vote to Candy Land, too.

Hills. Rather have shelter and good lines of sight. Forest don't feel right and fuck candyland. Gonna make yerselves sick over there one way or the other.

[personal profile] wherenoonegoes 2018-04-21 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
All three have some sort of threat, but I'm voting the hills. There's a threat we actually know how to fight there.
wherenoonegoes: (Hiccup excuse me)

[personal profile] wherenoonegoes 2018-04-21 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
See, us being seen as monsters is why I'm voting against it. Short term...we might be fine. Emphasis on might. Long term, depending on what their relationship is with the rest of the world? It'll make things way more difficult for us long term.

It's a terrible first impression, and how things go there will color everything we have to deal with from here on out.

Candy.

You don't want to go into that forest and it sounds like if you lose in the hills they keep you alive and torture you. No one wants to suffer forever.

Run for the hills. I'm not walking into a forest with some kind of demon in it.

[Again.]

And I didn't like playing Candy Land even when I was a kid.

Definitely nothing that's got undead, on account of you can't kill 'em. And I don't think we should be messing with big spiders and sure as hell not something that scares big spiders.

My vote's same as it was: Candyland.

[He's pleased as hell that Candyland is still on the table, if only because it feels like a win. Like maybe he had a good idea and the rest of the team agreed. He's a little less stupid in comparison if everyone's on the same page with him.

Then again, as he realizes with a bit of a chill up his back, if this all goes south that means his judgment will be on the hook too. There's no "I told you so's" for "actually I definitely voted for this and now we have to explain why there's a Sour Patch Kid corpse roasting over a fire".
