[Have a certain alien in a brightly-colored uniform in front of the mirror. Kal seems to be sitting front of the singing statues, the hymns marking the start of the message. It seems like he's been writing the hymns, trying to makes sense of them- they ring a bell, like he's heard them before but he can't quite place it.

Which is a new sensation for him. But considering most of his powers are gone he should get used to it.]

I know we're all settling in, so I will keep this short. I just figured we may as well use this... magic, or technology or whatever this happens to be.

I'd just like to know how long have all of you been here, if we all got here more or less at the same time. And...

[He wonders how to word what comes next. If this is someone's plot, if he's inside someone's... spell, or something by the sort he doesn't want to give them any clues about his weaknesses.]

Have you felt any... different since you woke up here?

I was once. [ He nods his head. ] I still carried the plate and my weapons until recently.

And you?

[andaway]

[Kal should have seen the question coming his way, but it's still a little bit hard to answer.]

I was... recently assigned to the soldier's guild back home. But I wasn't before that, no.

[greyerrant]

That is unfortunate. Were you conscripted, then?

[ He smiles, though there is a hint of sorrow to it. ]

I was chosen for the Luna Wolves at an early age, I was a juve when the induction process began.

[andaway]

[Kal makes a so-so motion with his hand.] Where I'm from, we all choose a guild to be a part of when we come of age. Scientist, artists, religious, soldiers... but because of certain circumstances I was drafted into the military guild against my will. I won't bore with the story, but honestly I've come to do the most with my training so I have no complaints.

Luna Wolves, is that the name of your... squadron or something by the sort?

[greyerrant]

Legion. One of tw... one of 18 legions that spanned the stars in the name of humanity, bringing enlightenment and peace where there was war.

[ He looks happy, then his expression slowly turns sour. ]

Or at least that's what we thought. Civil war tore that away from us in the end.

[andaway]

[Kal frowns empathetically.] I'm... really sorry to hear that.

[Even though he knows being sorry doesn't do much when it comes to the horrors of war.]

What happened?

[greyerrant]

My father betrayed the Emperor of Mankind. His father. And he betrayed all his loyal sons as well, turning to dark gods and striking down those that remained true to the Emperor with treachery.

[ It was only a few days since he denied Horus the chance to have him back, since he re-affirmed his loyalty to the Imperium over his gene-father. The battles still haunt him, as does the fratricide in particular. ]

I do not wish to speak of this further. Let us change the subject.

[andaway]

Of course.

[Kal's instinct as an investigative reporter is to figure things out and dig deeper, and he can go for the jugular if he has to... but obviously not in these cases. If anyone understands not pressing certain issues, it's Kal.]

I guess we'll have to wait a little more to figure out what's going in this place, but it's good to know there's trained people around.

[greyerrant]

If it comes to a fight, you can rely on me, that much is true.

Or survival, for that matter. But this world seems... steeped in mystery and magic.

[andaway]

[Kal wrinkles his nose, not even bothering to hide his distaste. Sorry, Zatanna but-]

I've never liked magic. [One of the very few things he's vulnerable to, so it stands to reason he's not a fan of it.] So I have honestly no idea on how to begin handling that. I guess we'll have to investigate further, I bet some people are more used to magic and will be able to help.

[greyerrant]

I hate sorcery myself. It was the root of... all that went wrong with my home.

I'll keep my distance from them if I can.

[andaway]

So will I, no doubt. But this world... I don't know. The way we got sent here, the way these statues sing, the way I've felt weaker since I landed here- it all but screams 'magic' to me.

I have no idea what our next step should be, though. Other than gather information, of course- but there isn't much to gather for now.
